How to Make Oatmeal 101

4 Jan

If you would also like to have a steaming bowl of oats to brighten your day, here are some basic recipes using the basic oats found in general supermarkets.  For the steel-cut oats, the key to preventing morning strife is soaking the oats over-night.  I have found that putting a small plate on top of the bowl of soaking oats prevents meddlesome hands from dumping them out etc.

Summer Steel-Cut Oats

  • 1/4 c. steel-cut oats
  • 3/4 c. water
  • pinch of each of the following:ground ginger, ground nutmeg, ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbs. honey
  • a handful of dried cranberries
  • handful of a mix of blueberries, blackberries, and rasberries

In-a-rush Oatmeal

  • 1/4 c. old-fashioned oats
  • 1/4 c. instant oats
  • about 1 c. water
  • pinch of each of the following: ground ginger, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg
  • 1 tbs. honey

The Healthiest Oatmeal You Will Ever Eat

  • 1/4 c. steel cut oats
  • 3/4 c. water
  • 1 tbs. ground flaxseed
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • a handful of blueberries

HOW TO:

Combine the oats and water in a bowl.  For the steel cut oats, microwave for 2 1/2 – 3 minutes, or until the water is mostly evaporated.  For the old-fashioned oats, microwave for 2 minutes.  Once the oatmeal is cooked to desired-doneness (soggy, hard, mushy, etc.), sprinkle on the the rest of the ingredients and stir away! Then eat and enjoy!

I don’tnormally eat oatmeal and for the longest time I had no idea how to make it or how to even make it more appealing. This post was very helpful.
